Submissions to Moonshot are currently closed.
Moonshot welcomes submissions of poetry, prose, comics, and art, for print and online publication, as well as articles, essays, and new media for publication online. Work submitted to Moonshot is considered for both print and online, however not all accepted work will appear in both versions of an issue. Please note, we only accept work through Submittable. Please do not email submissions to the magazine—they will be disregarded.
Moonshot does not follow any particular style or creed beyond wanting to see adventurous, original works. We encourage you to read sample work or purchase a copy to become acquainted with the publication before submitting. Please read the following guidelines closely so your submission is properly reviewed:
We accept submissions from writers of all levels and encourage emerging writers to submit to the magazine. The magazine does not generally reprint material that has already been published, so do not send us previously published works. Simultaneous submissions are acceptable, but notify us immediately if your submission is accepted elsewhere. Poetry submissions, please write to our info@ email for a partial withdrawal—if you withdraw your poetry submission in Submittable, we will assume all the poems were withdrawn.
Please be kind enough to wait for a response after submitting, and only include one submission (in each category) per reading period. We give every submission our full attention, but it can take our staff up to 3 months to respond. Please note that we frequently provide (but do not guarantee) personal feedback for writing submissions. If you prefer not to receive feedback on your writing, please let us know in your cover letter. Writers and artists accepted into the print edition of Moonshot receive a free contributor’s copy of the issue they appear in. It is our goal to one day be able to pay each and every contributor that we publish, but as of now we can only offer contributor’s copies.
Poetry
| Submit between 3-5 poems in one file.
Prose
| Submit 1 story, no more than 3000 words. Please note, we are not looking for excerpts from larger bodies of work at this time.
Art
| We are interested in all forms of two-dimensional artwork to be exhibited in the magazine, specifically: illustrations, photographs, paintings, collages, and prints. We recommend you include a PDF of 3-5 works or include a link to your portfolio website. We will request higher-res image files from you if your work is accepted. For those interested in submitting video art or new media, please submit through our Online Content section.
Comics/Sequential Art
| We are very interested in publishing comics! Please include up to 10 pages of a self-contained, original story (that means no excerpts from longer, ongoing work), making sure that your work can scale down to 5.5″x8.5″ and maintain readability. We recommend you include a PDF or include a link to your portfolio website.
Online Content (Essays, Articles, New Media)
| Moonshot is always seeking new content for our website outside of the standard issues we publish. Some examples of content we’re interested in include work that addresses the state of publishing and writing, specifically that which discusses small presses, smaller lit mags, and indie publishing. We are also interested in content that explores storytelling and narratives in non-traditional methods, especially those utilizing new media.
Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, please do not send us submissions about the moon. We get those a lot.
